Read below, remove all that you wish from the startup list, and post back if your computer is moving faster or the same slow speed.

    ===============================

Here are all the definitions of the startup processes that you have going on your machine at the moment. You can read through this list and determine which are necessary, and which are not. Keep in mind, if a program needs to be run at regular intervals (like a spy sweeper or such), you’ll want to keep those on the startup list. If something needs to be running to update itself, it’ll also update itself when you manually start the program, so doesn’t need to be in the startup list (such as jusched, which says startup is recommended. Trust me though, 15 years on computers and I’ve never needed it in startup since it’s been a part of most systems.).

ehtray – ehtray.exe is a process is the tray bar process for the Microsoft Media Center. It gives you easy access to the digital media manager. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.

    rundll32 – doesn’t need to be autostartup
hkcmd”hkcmd.exe” is Intel’s “extreme” grahics hot key interceptor. If you never use the Intel hotkeys, you can go to Control Panel > Intel Extreme Graphics > Hot Keys and turn them off.

igfxpers – igfxpers.exe is a process installed alongside NVidia graphics cards and provides additional configuration options for these devices. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”

Iaanotif – is a process belonging to the Application Accelerator from Intel. It changes the Windows ATA drivers for maximum performance. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

DMAScheduler – is a process which belongs to the DigitalMedia Plus Archiver. This program is non-essential process to the running of the program, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

RECGUARD – is a process from HP that prevents a user from deleting or corrupting the WinXP Recovery Partition on Hewlett Packard computers.

HPBootOP – is a process belonging to HP Boot Optimizer. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”

Remind_XP – is a process belonging to the SoftThinks CD Creator CD/DVD Writer and serves as a reminder to register for full product support. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.

HPWuSchd2 – is a process belonging to the Hewlett Packard Software Update Scheduler which displays update information regarding HP’s range of products. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”

    Spybot SD (Which I deleted)

AAW Tray – is a AAWTray Application belonging to AAWTray Application (wht_knght says this is for AdAware. Keeping it running in startup is personal preference.)

RTHDCPL – is a process belonging to the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel and is bundled alongside Realtek sound cards and audio hardware. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”

ALCMTR – is a process installed alongside Realtek AC97 audio hardware and provides a monitoring service. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”

jusched – is a process installed alongside Sun Microsystem’s Java suite and checks for Java updates which involves usage of the Internet. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer’s Internet browsing and Java usage and should not be terminated. (wht_knght terminates it, doesn’t trust programs to update security, updates that stuff manually and regularly.)

avgnt – is a process belonging to Avira Internet Security Suite which protects your computer against Internet-bound threats such as spyware and trojans which can be distributed through e-mail or attack directly to the computer allowing unauthorized access to your computer. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

hpqSRMon – wht_knght says this process is under investigation on most sites I’ve checked. Appears to be Photosmart related. Disable advised.

msmsgs (MSN Messengers? Never used it) – You can uninstall this through the control panel > Add/Remove Programs > Windows Components (left side of the screen).

TeaTimer (I’m sure it came with SpyBot) wht_knght says this monitors processes for SS&D. Disable if SS&D has been uninstalled.

Adobe Reader Spe… – wht_knght says it’s not necessary, can be disabled without worry.

HP Digital Imaging… – wht_knght says it’s not necessary, can be disabled without worry.

Updates from HP – is a process associated with RunnerEXE Application from Hewlett-Packard.

ymetray – is a process which belongs to the Yahoo! Music utility. “This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.”

    =======================================================================
This isn’t a problem of too many programs on the computer, it’s a problem of too many programs in the startup and system tray.

    1. Click Start > Run.

    2. Type “msconfig” (without quotation marks around it) and hit enter.

    3. In the new window that pops up, click on the Startup tab.

    4. List everything that you see there as additional details to your question if you would like further assistance.

I’ll bookmark this question and come back to help ya more after you list those startup items.

specs are MORE than sufficient. Processor & Operating Memory (RAM) is very good for the applications you have installed & uses you require. your HARD DRIVE capacity Is NOT available- you have not listed it.. you need to check that & see how much HD disk space you have total & available. If you are full than you need to move some FILES (not programs) but files like documents & photos & music to external storage/media such as disks &/or USB flash drives.

after you do these things- open your start menu and defragment your PC, this will arrange things on your Hard Drive for quicker access. note that this take hours so sont defragment untill you do not need your computer for the day.

If your PC is Still very slow you might have an infection/virus or bug or spyware problem.

    Also, to increase speed:

    1) reduce the icons on your desktop. these are shortcuts that keep a quick ‘path’ to the programs. they take up operating memory cause they keep these programs ‘ready to launch’ so if you have a desktop full of icons than get rid of ALL the icons EXEPT the main/important ones & ones that you DO need to keep ‘ready to launch’ such as: recycling bin, my computer, my documents, mozilla firefox/internet explorer, Do NOT Delete These shortcuts.

Right Click on each icon and select ‘delete’ OR ‘delete shortcut’ OR ‘remove from desktop’
don’t worry cause it will ask you to verify before it makes such a change so you cannot screw up by clicking the wrong thing.
    – if the message that comes up & tells you that deleting the icon will only delete the shortcut & NOT remove the program & that you need to go through the control panel to delete the program than CLICK ON OK.
If It does NOT say this than do NOT Delete that icon!!!! do this and reduce your desktop to less icons as possible- you will simply have to go through start menu to ‘open’ program and wait a LITTLE longer for it to load but you PC will run faster.

    2) Open Windows Internet Explorer. click on ‘tools’. click on ‘internet options’. a window will pop up with a few tabs on top. click the different tabs untill you see the options to Clear Search History & Delete Cookies & Clear Browsing History & Clear Cache & Clear Offline Data, you need to clear all that caca.
NOTE – this is a LOT of data and MOST of it is worthless, it is the data that allows you to pick up where you left off on any website you go to. notice that when you visit a site you have been to before that what youve clicked before is highlighted and if you had items in your cart they are still there and all that kind of stuff. that is because wile you are conected to a wep site it is constantly dumping ‘cookies’ into your PC. these cookies add up and eventually will make your PC sluggish, especially when you are on line. however, your user names & passwords will not come up automatically once you clear all these things. you cannot decide what internet data to keep or clear for 2 reasons: 1- you would have to go through thousands upon thousands of cookies & crapp 2- it’s i weird code and you will not know what’s what. so just clear everything and you will have to remember & type in your user name & password whenever you sign into a web site.
also- do this every week or so from now on (clear all internet data) to keep your PC running fast & smooth

finally- back up not all but MOST FILES/Documents/MultiMedia you can onto black media and than delete what stuff you have saved externally. and try to keep documents & pics & such saved on your hard drive to a minimum.
